Flat foot reconstruction surgery consists of different surgical procedures for the treatment of stage 2 Flat foot. These procedures involve getting the correct alignment of your foot and correcting multiple deformities which happen in a flatfoot problem.

Flat Foot Reconstruction Surgery:-

Patients are put under general or spinal anesthesia during flat foot reconstruction surgery. Flatfoot reconstruction surgery has 3 components. First, the surgeon will perform a calcaneal osteotomy. In this procedure, they will make a cut in your heel bone so that they can reposition it to a neutral position with two metal screws. They will then remove the affected posterior tibial tendon and replace it with the active FDL tendon. Lastly, they will cut the 1st metatarsal bone to recreate the arch in some form.

Post flat foot reconstruction surgery:-

Once the surgery is over, you will receive a topical anesthetic to numb your pain. And the medical attendants may also provide you with some pain medications that you can take orally. In order to allow your foot to heal, you will require having a cast on your foot that may go up to the knees. For six weeks after the surgery, you will need a walker, and you will have to avoid putting weight on the operated foot.

Recovery time:-

While your foot remains in a cast after the surgery, you will have to keep the foot upright and elevated. It will help you to heal quickly and minimize swelling. After a period of six to eight weeks, you can gradually start walking. Your surgeon may also prescribe some physical therapy.

Conclusion:-

If you think you need flat foot reconstruction surgery, you can contact Dr. Chetan Oswal at Orthowin Foot and Ankle Clinic in Pune.

Chronic Ankle Instability refers to a condition where there is giving away of the outer or lateral side of your ankle. It occurs after having repeated strains on your ankle. In addition, it happens when you are participating in certain physical activities or walking on uneven surfaces.

Symptoms of Chronic Ankle Instability

People who suffer from chronic ankle instability often complain regarding the following symptoms.

Tenderness or pain

A feeling of instability or wobbliness in your ankle

Persistent and chronic swelling and discomfort

A repeated turning of your ankle on some uneven surfaces or when you participate in sports

Causes of Chronic Ankle Instability

Chronic ankle instability occurs from an ankle sprain that has not healed adequately or rehabilitated completely. When you sprain the ankle, the ligaments or connective tissues are torn or stretched. Your ability to balance gets affected. You need proper rehabilitation to strengthen your muscles around your ankle and retrain the tissues within your ankle that affect your balance.

Repetitive ankle sprains perpetuate and cause chronic ankle instability. Each sprain subsequently results in further stretching or weakening of your ligaments that leads to greater instability and the chances of getting additional ankle-related problems.

Diagnosis of Chronic Ankle Instability

MRI is one of the most useful ways of diagnosing chronic ankle instability. It can identify any injury on the ligament as fiber discontinuity, swelling, wavy or lax ligament, and non-visualisation.

Treatment for Chronic Ankle Instability

Non-Surgical Treatment

Medications

Bracing

Physical therapy

Surgical Treatment- Ligament repair

Achilles tendon injury is something that affects the back of the lower leg. It happens mainly when you play recreational sports. However, it is a common injury that can happen to anyone. But, there are several ways to prevent Achilles tendon injuries.

Ways to Prevent Achilles Tendon Injuries

Strengthen and stretch your calf muscles

You need to stretch the calf muscles until you get a pulling feeling. But, you will seldom notice any pain. You must avoid bouncing at the time of the stretch. Exercises for strengthening the calf can help the tendon and muscle to prevent injury and absorb force.

Slowly increase your training intensity

Achilles tendon injuries occur after a sudden increase in your training intensity. You have to slowly increase the frequency, distance, and duration of the training. But, do not increase it weekly by more than ten percent.

Mixing your workouts

If you dance, kickbox, or run, your tendons and joints can experience some beating. This happens especially in the case of Achilles tendons. You have to do a few low-impact exercises weekly to provide your body with some rest. In addition, you can use or swim the rowing machine to do your workout without injuring your Achilles tendons.

Resting when you notice some pain

If you feel some stiffness, throbbing, or mild ache in the back of the ankle and heel, you must take a break. During this break, you must avoid not only high-impact exercises but also running until the resolution of your soreness. When you push through the pain, it can irritate your tendon and increase the risk of tendinitis.

Choose a safe surface for running

Choosing a safe surface for your running can prevent injuries. You can use a track surface. Moreover, these surfaces must not be too slippery or hard.

If you need more guidance about Achilles tendon injuries, Visit Orthowin Foot and Ankle Clinic & Consult with Dr. Chetan Oswal.
